Rest In Peace, Dear Friend

The Hahn family cries as we have lost our furry friend of almost 8 years! Logan was hit by a car after school today. He got loose (which he has done many times) and after a few hours he always came back. But tonight instead of Logan scratching at the door to come in for a drink, a stranger came to ring the doorbell. I was home by myself with the kids and Logan was in pretty bad shape. He had several cuts on his face and back leg. So I called mom to come over and watch the kids while I took the dog to the vet. There it was decided that with a collapsed lung and concussion, he should be put down. So with a heavy heart, I agreed and brought him home to be buried in the backyard.
As much as I've complained about the dog in the past few years, I really do miss him and his unconditional love and company! No matter how many times we told him "no" we were too tired to play or didn't want to let him out AGAIN, he always came to lay beside us or barked and wagged his tail when we came home. He was also wonderful with the kids. And they ABSOLUTELY loved him and I'm sure will miss him as well.

So if you could remember us in prayer because although he was a pet, he was part of our family and our first "baby."

Pictures and Birthdays

First of all, I have to say a big thank you for all the prayers, thoughts, and cards we received in this past week. Although it was difficult to say good-bye to grandpa, we are doing ok and will continue to heal knowing that God has him safe in heaven. I don't know what people do who lose a loved one and don't have that peace knowing that they are in God's hands.
Secondly, we finally got our new camera about a week ago. We went to pick it up 2 weeks ago when it was on sale at Best Buy, but of course it was out of stock, so we had to wait another week to get it. It's a lot different than our old one, but I'm sure we'll get used to it. And I thought I'd post some recent pictures (since we have taken so many trying out the different features of the camera). And of course, they are mostly of our favorite model! :)

Lastly, I have to wish our siblings a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Kristina turned 27 on the 13th and Nate will be 27 on the 16th of March. It was really nice being able to celebrate with Kristina because we haven't done that in years. The Bergers, Hoovers, and Hahns went with Kristina to the Chubby Trout restaurant, where you get a free ice cream sundae and mug if it's your birthday (for future reference). And then back to our house to watch the Purdue basketball game and they won!!

Halloween Theme : OBJECT

Alright, so this year the theme was difficult...maybe too difficult. Did it scare some of you away? :) We had our annual Halloween party on Saturday and had a great time as usual. It's always fun to see how creative people are with their costumes and how well they follow the theme. We ate lots of yummy food, played some games, and watched a scary movie (well, at least there were some scary parts in it! :) ). Below are some pictures of the night.
Landon with his costume on (even though he couldn't come to the party, he still had to dress up!) Matt's parents watched him for the evening.
What's a toilet without toilet paper?!?!
Twister and the big top...yes that's an elephant!
The seed corn twins!
The beet and the scarecrow
Can anyone guess what I was?? It took some clues, but Scott and John finally guessed! :)
Poor Logan didn't even get a costume this year...doesn't he look sad??
Winners: Most creative costume-Jessica and Best Overall -Jamie (and Matt tied with him)
And by the way, Landon's diaper rash is MUCH better, mostly gone. Thanks for all the great advice. We ended up sticking with Desitin and it cleared it up. YEAH!

Update on house/dog

Well, we did it. After 3 full days of continuous work, cleaning, organizing, throwing out, etc. we are completely exhausted! But we are living in the cleanest house we've ever been in! We had a showing last evening and it sounded like it went pretty well, but the family doesn't know if it's the right house for them. I just looked up our listing on the hahn website and it is totally weird to see your house listed for sale with pictures and everything! :) So, I guess for now, we just wait (something that we've become quite good at lately :)).
Logan seems to be doing ok. He is SO determined to lick his leg that we've ended up putting 2 different cones on him plus an extension (made out of a Rice Krispie box) :) to deter him. He pretty much has to have the cones on at all times and cannot be left alone or he tries to lick it. It's becoming quite difficult to be patient with him because he is so much work and you can only yell, "NO LOGAN!" so many times before you start to get frustrated. He is healing, which I am grateful for, and he is using his leg more. So, hopefully everything will heal quickly and this will all be a memory!

News

Well, I guess I'll start with bad news first... ...even if you don't like dogs, this picture has to make you sad. This is our dog in his current state. He had surgery on Tuesday for a torn ACL. Turns out, it was torn and now he is in the recovery period. It is really difficult for all of us. He is restricted from any running, jumping, or using stairs! He also is constantly trying to lick his wounded leg, so he has to wear a cone. :( Poor guy. And more bad news is that he is on restricted activity for 8 WEEKS! His poor leg, and I can't imagine that he likes us much now! :)
On to happier news though, we have experienced quite the whirlwind recently with this new house. We looked at it last Thursday, made an offer on Sat., got a counter offer on Mon., and made another offer today that got accepted (with a little tweaking from them)! So as soon as we can sell our house, we are first in line for this new house! We have our first showing on Monday evening, and we've got about 5 1/2 years of junk to organize by then!
So, we've a LOT going on, which calls for some stressful times and decisions (YEAH... DECISIONS!! :( ). Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers!

Possibilities

With spring, comes many new possibilities...new plants, new flowers, warmer weather, etc. We also have some possibilities that have come up within the last couple of days.
1. Logan will probably have surgery. :( We thought maybe some medicine, less food and exercise, and taking it easy would help. But within the last two days, he has gotten much worse and will go in on Tuesday for an x-ray and perhaps surgery if the x-ray shows a torn ACL. He'll have to stay at the vet's overnight to heal.
2. A new house!?!? We looked at a house in Goshen and REALLY love it. It's an '05 ranch with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and 3 acres of land. It's on CR 38 right off of 119. So, we made an offer today. Crazy right? Well, the offer is contingent upon us selling our house so we're trying not to get our hopes up, but it is a really nice house. Here's a link to the Hahn realty website and a picture of the front of the house. Once you get to the wesite, search Goshen, and it's listing 071.

So we could definitely use some prayer as we look for God's guidance on these new possibilities! :)

Decisions, decisions

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a terrible decision maker from picking out what to wear to finding a restaurant to eat at. I am usually happy with whatever decision is made. Well, I find myself faced with a decision and don't know what to do. We have just completed 4 1/2 months with the adoption agency with little to no "action". We have had a few hits a day on the website and very few letters requested by birthmothers, so Matt and I have been talking about whether or not to change the profile of the baby we have requested. We were pretty strict with drug and alcohol use as well as physical/mental disabilities. But, we are now at the point where we have been waiting for a child for 3 1/2 years and we're not sure how much more patience we have! :) So we are thinking about opening up our profile to include children from other races. Not that we had anything against kids that are not white in the first place, we just thought it'd be easier for two white people to raise a white child. So, I ask for your prayers as we ask God His opinion on the subject and hope that an answer will become clear to us. We want a child but also don't want to change our hopes just to get one.
Also, on a side note, Logan will probably be going back to the vet for the 3rd time in a month to look at his back leg (which was previously injured) and now his front right leg that he hurt last night and actually whined about! That poor dog has a rough life! :)

Our dog, the sports star!

Ok, so he doesn't really look like a sports star...but he may have the injury of one. We took Logan to the vet today because recently he has been limping and not really using his back right leg. It's been probably about a month since we've noticed, but he doesn't whine or whimper when we touch his leg and he was still running around and playing on the leg. But, apparently the vet thinks he may have torn his ACL! So, poor Logan is on medicine for the next two weeks and if that doesn't help, then he may have to have surgery on his leg. The bad part about it is that because he is using his other leg to support himself on, a lot of times that leg tears too because of the added weight. So Logan has to be on a restricted diet and exercise so he doesn't injure himself more! :) I'll try to keep everyone updated on the process for the poor guy!
