Polar Vortex 2014

Alright...so I don't really know what that means but people are throwing that term around this winter.  It is absolutely freezing.  Today is our 7th day of school we've missed since the beginning of January for cold or snow or drifting.  It is crazy!  The kids have been really good and have done a great job entertaining themselves since we've been stuck inside.  We've had several county wide emergency days where we aren't even supposed to be on the roads.
A few of the days when the temps were above zero, we bundled up the kiddos to go outside.

Matt snow blowing our driveway
Church was cancelled a few Sundays so we had "home church" as the kids called it.  Emerson told the children's story about a dog who fell into a river and a mermaid who saved it just like God saves us.
Landon was the Pastor and he shared 2 stories about Elijah (the Bible story they read the previous night).
Matt was our Worship Leader who helped the service move along and I played the music.
After church was Sunday School.  Matt read the story of Daniel and the kids made a craft.

Although I totally neglected to take any pictures, we also got to meet 2 new members of the Davis family.  Easton and Graham were born last week and we got to visit them in the hospital.  They are totally adorable and we're so excited they are finally here!

Emerson also started gymnastics (and has only gone twice because of the weather).  She LOVES it!  I was a little worried how she would do by herself with a male coach, but she does a great job!  She loves to practice at home.

Matt made us a fancy dinner last night.  We had crab legs, bluegill, corn, bread, and an after dinner mint.  YUM!!

We've had great family time...but it is nice to have a "normal" schedule, so hopefully we'll go back to school tomorrow.

More Christmas Break Fun!

Here are some more highlights from our 2 (and 1/2) week break:
Em snuggling on the couch with Uncle Steven and Aunt Kristina
As Landon says, "I'm gonna get my groove on" to Just Dance Disney.  Notice Em in her Belle dress up dress!
New hair cuts for the girls
We had a great time, as usual, at the Frye's for New Year's Eve.

Playing in a Euchre tournament
Boys playing corn hole after the adults were done throwing the bags from the loft.
Girls with a performance of some sort
Sisters snuggling
Emerson got the great idea to give her turtle (the one she's had since summer) a name.  And this is what she came up with:
We also made snow ice cream over break.  It was actually pretty good and really easy.  We certainly had enough snow to use!
We also had the chance to see "Frozen" in the theater with Mom and Kristina.  The kids (and adults) really enjoyed it.  It wasn't too scary.  Although at one part Landon looked at his bucket of popcorn and said, "I'm only looking at my popcorn."  But they did really well and Emerson REALLY enjoyed the music.
We are so blessed to be able to spend time with our family and friends and to have warm houses to stay in when it's cold!

Christmas Time 2013

Well since we're snowed in today and tomorrow, I better get caught up on my posts! :)  Watch out...it's a long one!!
Christmas week started with our annual friend's Christmas.  The Davis family always hosts and we have a great time eating, decorating cookies for Santa, and spending time together.

Then on Monday, we had the Clarks and Bergers over for our Christmas together. We had a nice time eating, opening presents, and playing Settlers of Catan with Steven and Kristina afterward.  Kristina was home for 2 weeks and we saw Steven just for a little while before he headed to Antarctica and Brazil.

Emerson showing off her new Sofia the First jewelry and winter boots from Memaw and Papa B.

They both look so happy here...just ignore the giant flash reflection in the tv! :)
On Christmas Eve morning, we went over to the Hahns for brunch.  Nate was home for the week so it was great to see him again.
New suitcases from Gma and Papa H.

Probably the most excitement we had on Christmas Eve was opening the note Tricky brought from Santa saying our elf had extra magic for the day and the kids could hold him and play with him for the day.  Emerson was ecstatic.  Landon was terrified....if you remember last year, he touched the elf and had a horrible time with the guilt of making our poor little elf sick the next day.  We finally helped him get over his fear with a lot of reassurance and he did touch him. :)
We read the story of Jesus' birth and then the kids got to open their first gift from us on Christmas Eve...new Christmas pjs!
Getting everything ready for Santa.  The reindeer got special food that the kids put together at preschool.

New Christmas pajamas
Christmas morning, the kids actually slept in a little and then ran around like crazy looking for gifts from Santa under the tree and in their stockings.
Opening Jesus' gift first... a Sparkle box.
We wrote things we did to help others...thus giving Jesus a gift.

I love trying to catch their reactions on camera! :)
These are the gifts they got each other.  Landon picked out 2 Sofia dolls for Emmy and she chose a car, darts, and and ball for him.
I hope you had a wonderful season celebrating the greatest birth of all...Jesus Christ!
